Applies to BrutalSoft 2.2.3 / Core 1.1.3.
Packages and requirements
Unpack the full download first. The installable theme is brutalsoft-2.2.3.zip and the companion plugin is brutalsoft-core-1.1.3.zip. Do not upload the outer bundle to the theme installer. Node.js and Tailwind build tools are not required on the server.
Declared minimums are WordPress 6.0 and PHP 7.4. Runtime validation currently covers PHP 8.2.29, 8.4.18 and 8.5.3; PHP 7.4 has static compatibility coverage only. Use a maintained environment that also meets WordPress, Core and any optional plugin requirements.
Install on a new site
- Open Appearance → Themes → Add New → Upload Theme. Upload the theme ZIP and activate it.
- Open the top-level BrutalSoft Settings → Install plugins screen. Review the plugin and choose to install and activate BrutalSoft Core. The theme does not force activation.
- Alternatively, upload the separate Core ZIP under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and activate it.
- If you need the optional builder samples, install and activate Elementor from WordPress.org. Standard pages do not require Elementor. Elementor Pro is not bundled.
- Configure the site, then import sample content only if needed. Existing sites do not need to import again when updating.
First settings to review
- Settings → General: site title, tagline and site language.
- Appearance → Customize → Site Identity: native logo and Site Icon.
- Settings → Reading: static homepage and posts page.
- Appearance → Menus: primary navigation, nested menus and footer locations.
Installation messages
A missing style.css message usually means the outer bundle was uploaded. For upload-size limits, ask your host to adjust limits or upload the correctly extracted directory with its file manager. If Core installation fails, check permissions and try the separate ZIP; deleting content or clearing the database is unnecessary.
